First the big news – two of the Apatcheez have won prizes in the Queensland Quilters’ Show –
Big congratulations to Robyne for first prize in her category with her ballerina quilt – now you might remember that I told you it was a prize-winning quilt in a previous post
Here’s the quilt again –
and here’s Robyne accepting her prize (thanks for the photo Jane)
Naturally there was an Apatcheez cheer squad in force.
Margaret won 3rd prize in her category with her beautifully appliqued quilt ‘Summer’. If it looks familiar, it’s because this was a entry in our birthday challenge – see this post
So we are very proud of our girls – not bad from such a relatively small group. Small but avid quilters.
Many of the Apatcheez dabble in other crafts as well as quilting and Carol finished a lovely embroidered cloth for a very lucky relative. Take note of the beautiful satin stitch. This one really has to be seen to be appreciated.
Carol seems to able to finish quite complicated projects very quickly. Faith is another who has the same skills and you’ve seen many of her quilts in previous posts. Another month another quilt and here is the latest finish –
This is another project that needs to be seen in person. It s a family tree and Faith used quilting and embellishments to make the whole project sing.
While applique remains very popular amongst the ladies, pieced quilts are becoming almost as popular. You can see why when there are quilts as beautiful as Julie’s. She made this one for her sister and the colours of the Kaffe Fassett collective fabrics that she (and I) favours really make the design pop.
Not everyone can be as skilled as the ladies I’ve mentioned and it takes time to become an expert. So start young is my advice. Here is my grand-daughter Baileigh taking that advice. Baileigh joined us for classes last week and was eager to start her own project, which she has almost finished.
Look at that concentration!
So many projects, so little time. If you’ve been working on a project a month you will already know that October’s project is number 6. Hopefully you’ve made a bit of headway with it.
To inspire you we are having our 10th birthday celebrations last for the whole year. We have a birthday bonus prize each month where every $10 of purchases gets you a ticket into the monthly draw. The prizes are well worth winning and September’s included a lots of notions from me as well as a large charm pack, ruler pack, fabric bundle and thread from very generous suppliers Two Green Zebras, Victorian Textiles, XLN Fabrics and Cottage Garden Threads. The winner was drawn at the first class after the end of the month and … congratulations to Debbie who is seen here racing off with her bag full of goodies eager to start another project!
October’s bonus box also includes lots of great prizes so good luck to everyone. I will be away in Houston when it is drawn so Jan will be looking after the classes and doing the honours. I arrive in Houston on Halloween so that should be interesting. In the spirit of all things autumnal (even though here in Brisbane we’re deeply into Spring) I though you might like a link to this pumpkin pincushion I discovered at Easy Peasy Creative. Seems appropriate somehow.
Until next time happy quilting
