Closing Down Sale
Who would have thought this time last year that 2020 would have turned out to be so strange? I’m sure everyone is eager to get back to normal and renew our friendships and communal activities. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem likely for some time. Not in the way it used to be anyway. I know some groups are meeting again albeit with socially distant seating arrangements, individual food parcels and bring-your-own-mug rules. Not to mention the sanitising of furniture before and after the event. I don’t see Apatchy being able to be run that way. The space is not sufficient to run a reasonably sized class and the cleaning requirements would be quite onerous if you imagine having to do a deep clean twice a day.
The lack of classes has had quite an impact on the business as you can imagine and the restrictions have meant that I have not seen many of you since March. To make matters more complicated, the connection of the NBN last week has rendered the Apatchy landline lifeless so you will have to use my mobile to communicate – 0408 745 501. The big shows that we attend – Laidley Spring Festival and Christmas in the Country at Gatton have been cancelled.
I have had many sleepless nights over the past weeks and I have come to a decision to suspend classes and not continue with Apatchy as you have come to know it. At least for the remainder of this year anyway. We may be back up and running as normal next year but there is no certainty of that and I cannot continue as I have been for the past five months.
I intend to maintain online trading and the shop will be open as it is now for the short-term. To tempt you then to stock up on any items you may need or just to have a little shopping spree I am having a ‘closing down sale’. To tempt you even further there will be BIG discounts – 40% off all stock – yes that’s right – 40%. This is your chance to reap the benefits. I’m sure your stash must have dwindled over the five months since we’ve had classes. As well as fabric there is haberdashery, books and lots of other items included in the sale. I am assuming that much will go quickly so take advantage while you can.
The sale will be in-store only and no discount will show on online purchases, items that have been previously ordered, Tilda Club or magazines. If you would prefer not to come in and want to order via the website please give me a call so I can process your order outside the website and make sure you get your discount. You are welcome to email me your requirements and I will call you with a total when I check if everything is still available.
Due to the Covid restrictions and the limit of people allowed in the shop at any one time you will need to call me on 0408745501 to book in for this sale. I can take phone orders too but remember I am here by myself so you might have to leave a message
The sale will start next Tuesday 15th September and run for a week to the following Tuesday. I will be here all week and from 10am to 1pm on Saturday but please call first.
So what does this mean for the future? As well as continuing online in a smaller capacity I will continue to service the Field Journal Club members (see below for information on that) and Tilda Club members together with the magazines that have been ordered (Homespun and Quilters Companion).
Due to cost issues I will not be providing the Bee Mindful kits so if you are interested in this project you will need another source. I had an email from the supplier this week saying that kits should start to be available in the next couple of weeks so I’m sure you will be able to get this project if you are still interested in it. The patterns should also be coming at that time although Michele, whose design it is, has started treatment for breast cancer so there may be delays. If you really want this project you should sign up as soon as possible though. If you have trouble let me know and I’ll see if I can help you.
People have asked about what’s happening with the Field Journal Club. Katie made contact with us to say that they are still trading and filling orders, although they are based in Victoria so they have delays due to restrictions down there. This is what she said about the Field Journal Club –
“We understand how our
stitchers with a Field Journal subscription would love for it to re-start,
having invested many stitching hours and love into their Field Journal. Due to
the pandemic we have needed to spend time stabilising our core business in
order to get through this unprecedented time. Field Journal is a huge part of
our business and we are feeling it’s loss, but we have to be honest with
ourselves and with you. We have had the rug ripped out from under us and we
need to get back on our feet in order to build momentum before we can take on
what we know is a huge task.
After much consideration of the current events unfolding and our current situation, we have come to the decision that Field Journal club will resume in January 2021. This will give us enough time to gather resources, set up better processes than ever before and allow us the time we need to design beautiful stitcheries.”
So it seems I am not the only one having to re-structure and for those who have been patiently waiting – I’m afraid the wait will continue for a little longer. If you decide you no longer want to be a part of this project please let me know as soon as possible and I will let Katie know. Otherwise expect another instalment in January.
As for the Geronimo Club – As many of you know the firm that used to sell the charms for the Geronimo badges was sold and the yearly badges are no longer available. If you have paid your Geronimo fee this year and have received a birthday certificate but not used it yet please do so as soon as possible. If you have paid your fee and not received a birthday certificate, I will have one here for you and you are welcome to use it in the sale. If you can’t get to the sale please contact me to make other arrangements.
This has been a hard decision to make and I know that many of you have seen Apatchy as a support network. I hope you can still find the perfect fabric at Apatchy by visiting the online store. I look forward to catching up with you and being inspired by the amazing work you all do.
On a brighter note there have been some birthdays and there are more to come that should be acknowledged. In August the birthday girls were Pat P (who celebrated a B-I-G one), Joananne, Jan and Susan. September birthdays are shared among Chris, Di, Sharyn, Elaine, Robyn, Robyne and Dianne. I hope you all had (or will have) a lovely day.
Until next time – happy quilting
