Welcome to Apatchy Quilting Blog
Can you have too many quilts in one weekend – no way!
I thought you might like to see some more photos from last week’s craft show at Laidley: There really was some beautiful work at the show – aren’t the people of Laidley and nearby clever? Now not content with three days of peach blossoms and craft we decided to drive out to Samford on Sunday to check out their quilt show! We weren’t disappointed as we found wonderful quilts including miniature marvels from Lorraine Sheane-Smith…. Continue Reading
Laidley leaps into Spring
Jan and I are having a great time at the Spring Festival in Laidley. You can find us at the Uniting Church at the quilt show. Just follow the queue for strawberries and ice cream but be warned they are addictive. And so are the peach blossoms and the home-made cakes and, well you get the general idea. As always the good folk of Laidley have done a sterling job and the show is a… Continue Reading
Blue is the new black
Tiffany Blue actually. Let me go back a little – contrary to popular belief I have been rather busy lately behind the scenes. One of the things I have worked on is re-vamping the blog. As I am somewhat technologically-challenged this has probably taken me longer than it would someone who knew what they were about. But c’est la vie. Apart from the alteration in the header and the addition of the beautiful shade of… Continue Reading
“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come”
Thanks Shakespeare. Well maybe not too many wrinkles but definitely with the rest. So it’s that time of year again when there are birthdays galore at Apatchy. Mine was a few weeks past but this week we have the wonderful Jan’s on Sunday (a day she shares with a few others such as Joananne and Susan) and then there’s Mum’s on Wednesday – she will be visiting us and so we can celebrate her special… Continue Reading
Are you up for a challenge?
It’s that time of year again when we issue a challenge to all our clever ladies to come up with a quilt that will fit a theme and be shown at the Christmas party event at the end of the year. Before we talk about the challenge let’s talk about our Christmas Party – it’s only4 months away – I know hard to believe isn’t it? Generally at the Christmas Party we have a ‘Secret… Continue Reading
Having a great weekend at the Rotary Heritage Craft weekend at Maryborough. Remember last year we were here we challenged one of the organisers to make up our owl? Well he did and here’s the proof. We hung our ‘Flowers for Trudy’ quilt and we have had a huge response to it. Everyone loves the bright colours and are quite disappointed when we tell them it isn’t a kit for sale. We have sold quite… Continue Reading
Winners are Grinners!
Well it has certainly been an inspiring weekend for some Apatchy girls – at the show at Brookfield two of our girls swept the awards – Lesa with her magnificent modern Baltimore and Chris with her wonderful tea cosies. Have a look at the photos and tell me they aren’t happy. Great work ladies, congratulations! And here’s the winning tea cosies:
The Importance of Quilting and how it saved the life of a Japanese grandmother
Recently my sister welcomed some visitors from Japan – the parents, sister and grandmother of an exchange student she had hosted some years before. All were impressed with the art quilts on the wall and the lovely quilts on the beds. One particular quilt struck them as it featured a Geisha with Japanese writing. They were all very complimentary about the quilts but it was the grandmother that said something profound. She indicated via her… Continue Reading
Quilt show and Trudy’s quilt
We are having fun at the Boonah Quilt Show today and tomorrow. Hope you get a chance to visit because there are some beautiful quilts on display. The nicest is of course ours shown here- We have finally received permission from the Blue Nurses to hold a raffle for this quilt, the whole proceeds of which will be donated to them. For those who don’t know – Trudy, a good friend of ours passed away… Continue Reading
Ta-da! Block of the Month Revealed!
Finally I am able to reveal to you the new Apatchy Block of the Month – and it’s a Fiesta! This award-winning quilt took out “Best in Show’ in 2013 Quilt Show in Paducah, USA. Designed by Karen Kay Buckley it features vibrant applique blocks that are reminiscent of our tropical lifestyle here in Brisbane, Australia. In fact this quilt was inspired by the designer’s travels in Mexico. Nevertheless it is at home anywhere you… Continue Reading
