The Countdown has begun
A rather belated happy new year to everyone. I hope you have enjoyed your little break and look forward to a motivating and inspirational year at Apatchy Quilting. I arrived back in Brisbane early in the new year after a wonderful holiday with Luvvy, the teenager-in-residence, my parents and aunt. I, of course, enjoyed it all – from the tuk-tuk ride in Bangkok to the iconic stone houses of the English Cotswolds to the twinkling lights of… Continue Reading
And the winner is……..
A great day yesterday after our annual Challenge Quilt competition and Christmas event. We had a record number of entries with 16 clever ladies going with the theme ‘Music’ and creating wonderful projects. Because the scope of the entries was wide open we had a wide range of exhibits and techniques. The winner of the day was Suzanne with her amazing creation called “Bad Moon Rising” after the Creedence Clearwater Revival song. Not only was… Continue Reading
6 things I learned from the challenge quilt
Only 5 more sleeps until our annual Challenge Quilt unveiling / Christmas party. I don’t know about you but I just spent the weekend furiously trying to get my piece finished. As you know I like to share your pain and create a piece too – even though it is just for display. After spending around 200 hours on this work I have decided that some things are too much and so my offering will… Continue Reading
A baby AND a quilt show!
Great excitement on Friday when I was at the quilt show in Brisbane – a new grand-daughter – clearly a good omen I’d say. Number 1 son and his fair maid welcomed their first child – Eleanor Margaret Kaye – 8lb – mother and baby doing well. Here’s a photo, the best available so far of Lady Eleanor and her adoring grandmother: And here’s some of what you missed at the quilt show:
Can you have too many quilts in one weekend – no way!
I thought you might like to see some more photos from last week’s craft show at Laidley: There really was some beautiful work at the show – aren’t the people of Laidley and nearby clever? Now not content with three days of peach blossoms and craft we decided to drive out to Samford on Sunday to check out their quilt show! We weren’t disappointed as we found wonderful quilts including miniature marvels from Lorraine Sheane-Smith…. Continue Reading
Laidley leaps into Spring
Jan and I are having a great time at the Spring Festival in Laidley. You can find us at the Uniting Church at the quilt show. Just follow the queue for strawberries and ice cream but be warned they are addictive. And so are the peach blossoms and the home-made cakes and, well you get the general idea. As always the good folk of Laidley have done a sterling job and the show is a… Continue Reading
Blue is the new black
Tiffany Blue actually. Let me go back a little – contrary to popular belief I have been rather busy lately behind the scenes. One of the things I have worked on is re-vamping the blog. As I am somewhat technologically-challenged this has probably taken me longer than it would someone who knew what they were about. But c’est la vie. Apart from the alteration in the header and the addition of the beautiful shade of… Continue Reading
“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come”
Thanks Shakespeare. Well maybe not too many wrinkles but definitely with the rest. So it’s that time of year again when there are birthdays galore at Apatchy. Mine was a few weeks past but this week we have the wonderful Jan’s on Sunday (a day she shares with a few others such as Joananne and Susan) and then there’s Mum’s on Wednesday – she will be visiting us and so we can celebrate her special… Continue Reading
Are you up for a challenge?
It’s that time of year again when we issue a challenge to all our clever ladies to come up with a quilt that will fit a theme and be shown at the Christmas party event at the end of the year. Before we talk about the challenge let’s talk about our Christmas Party – it’s only4 months away – I know hard to believe isn’t it? Generally at the Christmas Party we have a ‘Secret… Continue Reading
