Welcome to Apatchy Quilting Blog
Time for a tactical retreat?
While we’ve been at the Esk Quilt Show we’ve been staying with Isla and Ken at the Twilight Grove Farm B&B. Here’s the scene this morning…….. If you look closely you can see Jan having her morning cuppa on the verandah. It is such a lovely place and Isla and Ken are the perfect hosts. This is somewhere you want to spend a week- maybe next time. While we’re on the subject of home-away-from-home I… Continue Reading
On the road this weekend at the Esk Quilt Show. Last night we dined at the Club Hotel and not only did we have a very enjoyable meal up also we took out two prizes in the chook raffle – Jan’s going home with a chicken platter and I won the barbecue tray so guess what we’re having for dinner on Sunday night? There are a wide variety of quilts here at the show including… Continue Reading
Another special guest today at Apatchy with a visit from Hiroe Mogi – the doyenne of all things Japanese. Hiroe brought beautiful quilts with her to inspire us all. We were all impressed with her paper-pieced log cabins – some in triangles – some that featured sashiko and some with raw edge appliqué. A class seemed to be in order so stay tuned for more information. Here’s our happy group with Hiroe and one of… Continue Reading
Dream a little dream
Quite an eventful week here. We had a special visit from Nicola and her lovely mum to introduce us to her beautiful daughter Isla Rose. She is such a bright eyed little baby and so small! She does look a bit surprised doesn’t she? The teenager-in-residence went to his first big concert this week. He has been a big fan of Mr Rose for some time now and was very excited to see the man… Continue Reading
New project, new fabric, new baby
Isn’t it strange that the things we like to do seem to be difficult to start? When I am sewing I am quite happy but there are always other things to do and sometimes I seem to fiddle around until it’s almost too late to start. The past two days have been a classic example of this. I have been hoping for a free weekend for a month now and when I finally have one… Continue Reading

As many of you know I am very keen on art quilts and have indulged in a few creations myself. Currently there is a controversy raging in the quilt world – started when a quilt was displayed at the recent Modern Quilters Convention. This quilt comprised of many blocks – all featuring the ‘F’ word. Blogland has been very busy with those for and against the display/making of this quilt – and the commentary has become… Continue Reading
Strangers in a Strange Land
It was very exciting to welcome three people from the United States to Apatchy over the past week. First we saw Gail and Leonard from Texas. They had come to Brisbane on a cruise and decided to visit us on the only day they had free – thanks guys. Secondly we met the lovely Martha from Wisconsin. Again Martha had little time in Brisbane but chose to visit our Tuesday morning class. It really is… Continue Reading
Help the Blue Nurses
After Trudy’s funeral last week several of us decided a charity quilt would be a good thing to do. As the Blue Nurses helped Trudy stay at home where she wanted to be, and had been her favourite charity we decided they should be the ones to benefit. So… all who are interested – we will do a block 10″ finished (so hand it in at 11″ or over) based on a simple flower (ie… Continue Reading
