Welcome to Apatchy Quilting Blog

Front page news

It’s been a big week at Apatchy Quilting. One of the major items to report is that I made the front page of the latest issue of Down Under quilts magazine! That is to say my quilt has made the front page – see there in the bottom left – And not only that but inside there is a two page spread – yes two pages – on the making of what has become known… Continue Reading

The Perfect Quilter

If you’re perfect you will have re-arranged your sewing studio into the optimum ‘mission control for quilting’ by now. You will know where all your tools are and how to access them easily. All your fabric will not only be colour-coded but will also be systematically sorted into sizes and shapes based on an algorithm that you would have worked out in your scheduled downtime. Your embellishments will also be categorised according to colour and… Continue Reading

2016 – It’s a wrap

Well that was 2016 – went quickly didn’t it? Remember I promised to show you some of the projects the clever Apatcheez finished last year but which didn’t fit into the last post? Well here they are. Make yourself a cuppa and sit down because there’s quite a list – First up are the Tasmanians. You might recall that two ladies in particular had taken to vinyl mesh and were sewing up a storm. There… Continue Reading

Double Gold!

All classes and some remote Apatcheez have been very busy making and finishing lots of projects but this post I wanted to show you the ‘Nature’ challenge entries. We had a record 17 entries and, since a picture paints a thousand words here are the photos of these wonderful entries. In no particular order: Lynette’s butterflies – Pat’s asymmetrical depiction of the four seasons – Suzanne’s very amusing testament to the unfinished – Robyne’s very sweet… Continue Reading

The Evening Class Strikes Back

Not so long ago in the Apatchy galaxy which is really quite close…………….. After the rebel evening class have been brutally overpowered by the sheer number of finished projects by the Wednesday-morning-class, a new threat arises. Sharyn has a new sewing table and is keen to create more quilts and Margaret is close to finishing several projects. As they and the rest of the Wednesdays attempt to rule the quilting galaxy, only a few can stop… Continue Reading

What’s On at Apatchy and an Episode of the Sharyn Show

Well the dust has settled and my 15 minutes of fame has passed so we can now get back to the business of creating beautiful things and having fun – not necessarily in that order. First the fun – there are three events coming up. For those who have been in a cupboard for the past month – the Melbourne Cup will be run on Tuesday 1st November. To commemorate the event we will be… Continue Reading

Go off like a frog in a sock

The title of this post is Aussie slang for “to be very excited”. It’s what my number 1 son said I should be doing (in the context of “if I were you I would be going off” etc – like the aforementioned imprisoned amphibian)! Now I know you’ve probably had your fill of seeing my David Bowie quilt…. and you’re probably sick of hearing about the prizes won at the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair… Continue Reading

The Starman Evolves

Just in case you’re one of the three people in the world that haven’t been told…..my Bowie quilt won 2nd prize in the Open Pictorial category as well as Judge’s Choice award at Brisbane Quilt and Craft Show today. Many thanks to the Apatcheez who were there as the cheer squad, to the class who sent me the victory photo and to everyone else who sent their good wishes. I really appreciate your kind words…. Planes, Flowers and Quilts

My brother visited overnight last week so I took the opportunity to grab a couple of items from his secret-pilot’s-attaché-case to use as props (no pun intended) for the latest fabric arrival – ‘Aviator’. Thanks bro’. Designed by Dan Morris this is a great collection that has a masculine feel. The range includes logos, maps and, of course, cloudy skies. We are just waiting to take flight and do something wonderful with these aircraft-inspired fabrics.  Unfortunately that project… Continue Reading

The Best Way to Sort Your Stash

The second time it happened I knew I had to do something. I’d been looking for a particular fabric in my sewing room and couldn’t find it. Earlier a pattern had gone astray. I can’t understand how this could happen. Hadn’t I spent much of the Christmas holidays sorting out this room so it could become my personal creative space?  How had the ‘summer of the great de-cluttering’ possibly resulted in lost supplies? Clearly something… Continue Reading
